Our Holistic Practices
At True Self Holistic Therapy, we practice from a holistic, nervous system informed approach that honors the inseparable connection between mind, body, and spirit. We understand that emotional distress does not live solely in thoughts or behaviors, but is held and expressed through the body, shaped by lived experience, identity, culture, and environment.
Meet Your Therapist
Tiarra Abu-Bakr
Tiarra Abu-Bakr is a holistic clinical therapist, educator, and the founder of True Self Holistic Therapy. Her work is rooted in the belief that healing is not about fixing what is broken, but about remembering what has always been whole.
She supports individuals and communities navigating stress, trauma, identity exploration, and nervous system dysregulation through a deconstructed, trauma informed, and embodied approach. Tiarra’s work honors how systems such as racism, patriarchy, and intergenerational survival shape emotional and somatic experiences, helping clients understand their symptoms as intelligent adaptations rather than personal failures.
Her approach integrates evidence based psychotherapy with somatic practices, breathwork, meditation, sound healing, and embodied movement. She is especially passionate about collective healing, group work, and creating affirming spaces for BIPOC and LGBTQI+ individuals that honor diverse identities, relationship structures, and lived experiences.
At the heart of her work is a commitment to supporting people in living embodied, liberated lives aligned with their true selves.
Black Healing, Inspiration & Empowerment Playlist
This playlist was curated as a sound offering to support the Black healing journey. It centers music that invites rest, regulation, remembrance, and embodied empowerment, honoring both resilience and softness.
Black healing lives in the body, the breath, and the rhythm. These songs support moments of reflection, integration, and emotional release, reminding us that our survival responses were intelligent and that we were never broken.
This playlist is an invitation to slow down, reconnect, and come home to yourself. Whether used during therapy, after a session, or in daily life, it offers music as medicine, memory, and affirmation.
“To heal we must come out of denial and face the truth of our lives.”
